The project
Arcane Rush: Battlegrounds is a digital mobile card game from Gear Games, that immerses you epic card battles featuring heroes and creatures of all kinds. We created this 3D trailer for the game from a-z, and we had a blast doing it. The 35-second 3D animation was part of the game's marketing and release strategy, and features Ulrich, a new player in town.
We had around two months to produce a high-quality trailer that could welcome new players to the game. All the stylized modeling and texturing was done in 3D, with the exception of the opening shot. This was matte painted completely, then composited into the 3D environment, and further enhanced in compositing.

With great joy and humor, a CG cat takes us on a tour of "his" property, he is the boss, and through his actions, we find ways to save energy.
Cats are the real owner of a house! Something about the way they move and behave gives them a particular personality, a uniquely charming one!
For this film, we wanted to capture these little feline body language nuances and use them as a secondary layer of complexity to the 3D animation, bringing more realism and expressiveness to these funny moments.

There is time for everything. To play online and to put the phone down and go play with your friends.
That’s the main message that Vivo, a Brazilian telephone carrier, wanted to transmit to the kids. To achieve that, we went far beyond developing just a character and brought
to life Violet, the first 3D Youtuber. This opened an opportunity for a whole new online platform targeted at children. First, Violet came to life performing on a music video
that combined 3D animation with miniature sets.

Coca-Cola Marshmello
World-renowned DJ Marshmello has taken over Coca-Cola! The Coca-Cola Creations label brought a new flavor to the shelves and along with it, artistic events, visual experiences, music and games.
That's why we are extremely happy to announce our collaboration with 18 short films for the launch of this new coca-cola campaign at the invitation of GUT Sao Paulo
Coca Cola Creations label was developed in order to bring different flavors and experiences to consumers. Just like the product, the brand also bets on a bold visual communication for each launched product. Taking this into account, the creative team from GUT, who was responsible for the launch campaign, invited us to produce a short film series to announce the new white tin in a collab held with the famous DJ Marshmello. Creating a primary story was our first step. Marshmello would take care of the original Coca Cola for a while, so we decided to represent him through a thick and plasty liquid that wrapped the can and transformed it completely. A Marshmello invasion. And from that basic concept, we started developing each particular story.
Along with the brand, the artist created a flavor which mixed watermelon and strawberry, and in parallel recorded a song to launch simultaneously with the new flavor. And it was our responsibility to tell through short narratives all the astonishing news related: The new can model, the collab with the artist, the fruits mix, DJ’s new song, the game launched and the sensory experiences activated via QR code. All of this in a surreal, trendy and visually stunning way.
The Creations label doesn’t have so many ties with the brand tradicional guide, which allowed us an open way for defining the films’ art direction. The new tin had a black, white and shades of gray color palette. So we opted for a minimalist design, frame centered compositions, subtle background changes in every film and vibrant color points brought by fruits and liquids. A contemporary aesthetic with a super realism concerning the elements and the whole visual. A perfect realism – so perfect as to make a room for the surreal. Realizing the differences among the physics of each liquid was a quite interesting factor in creating this realism. While Marshmallo’s liquid would be heavier, slow as melted cheese, Coca Cola’s liquid would need to be bright and lively.
In view of the sensory and surrealistic path we decided to follow, 3D simulation was a great ally in our creative process. Smoke, explosions, several thicknesses and densities of liquids made our scene breakdown much richer and more precise. Since the scope was 5-15 seconds films, the narrative punch became more incisive and completely matched to the proposal of Coca Cola Creations label.
In addition to the art direction, in order to have a correspondence among the films we developed some editing and movement rules. We avoided using camera movement so that the experience was fully represented by the protagonist elements’ movements on the scene. Using cuts before the animation’s conclusion and time-jumping to finish the movement at another angle. Anticipate, cut, finish. This way, we were able to tell longer actions in short films.
Besides the creative part, this was a global campaign, with thousands of labels in different languages and a process that required an extreme organization and production intelligence in order to facilitate prompt changes within the 3D and simulation. A delirium that mixes aesthetics and production strategy, just the way we love!

WUNDERMAN THOMPSON
YEAR:
2022
How can we create sensations and talk about time using the product and positioning the brand in a way that the viewer absorbs the technological, scientific, and innovative pillars through motion?
This was our challenge to promote the new Sundown Vitamins’ branding. In this campaign, we talked about two specific products: Sundown Vitamin C and Omega-3. In partnership with Wunderman Thompson, we defined some unique features of each.
Diving into the properties of Vitamin C, we found a important element that allowed us to guide our narrative: time.
With the Time Release technology, the product gradually releases its content throughout the day, which brought us a very intriguing concept of working with light and shadow changes according to the passage of time.
The slow pace and the subtlety of the movements ensured us a more premium and elegant aesthetic.
In the Omega-3 narrative, our focus was on its new formula with smaller capsules. The comparison between the bottle size and the capsule allowed us to work with scales and movements like a gravitational ballet.
And subtly, we worked with the transparency of the elements in contact with the typography. Sometimes through the movements of the bottles and pills, and at other times through the shadows cast over them.

Real Time Data
When our friends from GUT São Paulo invite us for any project, we are pretty sure that we'll produce something out of the ordinary. It wasn't different this time regarding the films of the Real Time Data campaign for Mercado Livre. We had the challenge of producing films in which we needed to portray sales information and the search growth for particular subjects in real time. Every new information defined what we would watch. This was a really fun and fast Real-Time Data project we had the honor to collaborate with our crazy ideas for this cool client. Proud to share
In the first few months of the pandemic, online purchasing skyrocketed, and so did the caution with deliveries – for obvious reasons. The quarantine made many people start different activities, such as making homemade bread, gardening, and so on. This made the search volume for particular products and tools increase exponentially. That’s when Mercado Livre decided to create this campaign as a means of explaining this AI in filtering the user’s search, selecting the best product based on it and delivering it quickly and safely.
Therefore, our challenge was creating narratives that would metaphorically illustrate the whole journey: starting from the user’s search, going through all stages of purchasing until the product delivery at the user’s home. We created the scripts 100% together with GUT – it’s worth mentioning that they gave us extraordinary creative freedom. There were dos and don’ts concerning the ways we could go. So, after a few meetings, we realized that the best way to explain everything was to bring a minimalist composition working essentially with geometries and gadgets. Balls! Yes, balls! Spheres that would represent user’s searches which would be filtered shortly after and follow the route in a sort of maze, reaching the final moment of their journey within the website and getting ready for delivery.
3D animation would bring charm to the story we wanted to tell. The labyrinths and traps would be much more interesting if seen with depth and texture variety. We could also play with the physics of the balls by using simulations as an effect inside the crazy circuits. By organizing production, we would be able to change any information in real time. Representing different features of Mercado Livre such as quickness, security, products categories, and information intelligence, allowed us to create the most varied actions inside the playful platform of our films. Circuits inspired by games like “The Incredible Machine”, or those crazy videos we see on social networks in which one action triggers another, both contributed to the design of our art direction. And as this whole universe would be inside a cardboard box, we selected organic and tactile textures to represent this iconic symbol of Mercado Livre without leaving minimalism and elegance aside, with the support of marked shadows and diffuse lighting.

Whoever has Rappi has it all
You can order your lunch, the monthly shopping or even a ball pit? Rappi, a delivery app from Latin America, wanted to renew the way of communicating with its customers through social networks and the app itself. That was how we were invited by the guys from Sunset DDB. We needed to create several situations under the concept of "Whoever has Rappi has it all".
The idea was telling the app customers that they can order whatever they want. From burgers to violins, from pet food to a sofa bed, and so on. The scope of the project was creating as many situations as possible with the most different characters in a short time. So, the challenge was pretty clear: to develop a production management that would allow us to have a large number of tiny stories while valuing the quality of the result. This organization was fundamental for the project to get off the ground.
First, we started studying how to translate the different types of customers into 3d animation. Along with the agency’s creative team, we sketched some profiles and started studying their behavior, personality and acting so that later we could conceive our films. Following, we created a set of key body structures and assembled different characters using hair, skin tones and costumes – which definitely helped us to achieve the required quick delivery of the stories.
Working with stories in which the users can order anything they want using the Rappi application allowed us to create fun and unique situations. Each situation asked for a sort of character, narrative and acting in animation. With this, we successfully overcame the limitation related to the characters’ format variations. Oh! A curious fact: someone already ordered a real rabbit through Rappi. And it was delivered!

To celebrate Oktoberfest 2021 the snacks brand Snyder’s of Hanover teamed up with Beer Brewer to create an exclusive beer. Pretzels + Beer: what could go wrong? We joined forces with VML NY to create a few pieces presenting this great encounter of flavors.
Our main characters were a Beer and a Pretzel with a lot of inspiration from a graphic style of the 1930’s: Flat colors, thick outlines, rubber hose limbs and glove-hands. That influenced how we thought of the characters posing and acting, matching the animation style of that period, animating the characters frame by frame.
To give a spotlight to the fine design of these brand new cans we went all in with photographic looking 3D. It allowed us to be creative with the movement and lighting of the cans and gave full control of the integration between 2D and 3D.
The final piece of the project was a pack of still images displaying the cans with pretzels. All done in 3D, we had the challenge of portraying hyper-real Synder’s of Hanover pretzels. Grab a bite!

The “Draw The Line Against Malaria” campaign is a movement urging people around the world to come together and demand urgent action from world leaders to beat malaria – the world’s oldest disease, and one that keeps stopping children from going to school, families from earning a living and perpetuating the cycle of poverty, especially in Africa.
Created by DentsuACHTUNG! for the Malaria No More NGO, the campaign’s first action was a 1m50s film featuring a host of high-level global talent and celebrities from Africa. The film has a recurring visual motif that reflects the overall graphic identity of the campaign, based on an artwork created by Láolú Senbanjo, a Nigerian born, Brooklyn-based visual artist whose creations draw from Yoruba patterns and Nigerian symbols.
As a companion to the live action film, LOBO was tasked with bringing Láolú’s artwork – an intricate pattern that intertwines abstract and figurative imagery symbolizing the multiple fronts in the war against malaria – to life in a different way, using a mix of animation techniques.
We started by creating a series of bold, black-and-white 2D animations based on Láolú’s pattern. Those graphics were then applied onto the skin and clothing of a series of 3D human characters, flowing across them like living tattoos or tribal paintings while the camera performs slow, smooth moves that follow the visual story as it unfolds in tandem with the VO – provided by the beautiful, commanding voice of Nigerian singer and actress Yemi Alade, which is paired with the impressive sound design work of Antfood Studio to create a deeply engaging sonic atmosphere.
The pattern eventually spreads throughout the whole environment, symbolizing the world coming together in the mission to put an end to malaria – a mission that we are honored to be a part of. Here at LOBO we are constantly in search of meaningful work that could have a positive impact on the world, so we are thankful to Malaria No More and DentsuACHTUNG! for this opportunity and for the openness of everyone involved in the project, who let us try new processes and fresh ideas and watch them grow into the final film.

NuBolão
Nubank made it easier to set up a Bolão with your friends and created NuBolão. A feature within their app that allows users to place their guesses on all of the FIFA World Cup matches, create groups with friends and rank all users in a competition.
To promote NuBolão, we designed and animated 5 characters that embody common personality traits of Palpiteiros.
Everybody has their own way of thinking their guesses. Some people like to dive into all stats; some people always root for the underdogs; others just like to see the world catch fire, like every match is a rout. So together with Nubank we developed 5 characters to highlight the behaviors of 5 kinds of Palpiteiros (guessers betting on a Bolão).
We designed the characters to be relatable yet abstract. Our starting point was the Nubank design system. Literally spinning their 2D base forms to create fresh 3D shapes to be the building blocks of our characters.
Modular, with loose parts and filled with charisma, our 5 Palpiteiros had only 5 seconds to show who they were. The core of this piece is their unique characteristics showing through the design and behavior of each character.
Meet the 5 types of Palpiteiros: Otimistas (Optimists), Cheio de Regrinha (Stats Nerds), Em Cima do Muro ( Wobbly), Zebra Indomável (Relentless Underdogs) and Vida Loka (Oddball).
Combining realistic materials with abstract shapes gave us room to play a lot with the animation style. Mixing elements of the 2D and claymation aesthetics, such as big exaggeration and distortion, quick eye and mouth replacements and general snappy feel, all executed in a 3D environment to give more control and flexibility.

We helped to bring French cheese to Asia! Together with BETC Havas China we created a crazy film trilogy to present the new flavors of Belcube Chunk, a snack from the french company Fromagerie Bel to the Japanese and South Korean market.
When you are in a meeting with the agency and hear that the idea for the three stories concerns some ingredients bumping and exploding on the screen, well… it’s impossible not to make everyone at Dirty Work freak out about the project! The concept and the speech of the film were pretty clear: we should produce amusing narratives, bringing life to the ingredients but not humanizing them too much. After all, we would always blow them up! One of our main challenges was bringing charm and the perfect attitude to characters with no arms, legs, mouths and eyes. That’s when we decided to start our search for stop-motion pieces. Even though our film would be developed in a 3D environment, we wanted to use a stop-motion style since it works pretty well for the acting of inanimate elements.
We had in mind that we needed a very accurate decoupage. A few scenes, enough to introduce the characters, the location, to create the moment of tension and then BOOOMMMMM!!! Everything would explode towards the screen. To do so, we went in search of many non-sense oriental references. Not only because Japan and South Korea are our market, but also due to the fact that asian games and anime masterfully perform moments of tension with only a few scenes and actings.
Going back to our delightful characters, we had to carry out a scale study not only among them but also in relation to our scenarios. Whereas our aesthetics were quite related to stop-motion, we realized that we could treat our films as if we were building real models and putting the snacks inside them. We cared about ensuring that textures and other details were well represented on each character, in a faithful and realistic way so that there would be an appetite appeal in the scenes and our characters would look remarkably delicious in front of cameras.
In the matter of art direction, we decided to mix different techniques in order to achieve a unique visual concept to the campaign. We chose 3D animation to the characters and foreground, the backgrounds were produced using 2D digital painting, and the final shots explosions mixed 2D traditional animation and 3D particle simulation.
Finally, working on 6-second narratives was challenging and exciting. Besides laughing at a trapeze cheese, a fighting peanut or a food “kamehameha”. We just loved it!
